The dealer’s hidden $5,219
That’s the money built into a typical deal on an average $50,000 new car7, and none of it is on the window sticker. Here’s where it hides, and what Honk does about each one.
Plus Florida’s $969 average doc fee5, which our volume often gets reduced or offset.
estimated, on a typical $50,000 deal, after our $499 fee
Range: about $1,100 if you’d have brought your own financing and skipped most add-ons, up to $4,500+ on a typical deal. First responders and repeat clients pay $249, so they keep $250 more.

Estimates use public averages, not a guarantee. Price savings compare Consumer Reports’ reported average of $2,860 off MSRP through competing dealers with the August 2026 average buyer, who paid $1,763 below MSRP. Rate markup assumes 1 point (7% vs. 8%) on $45,000 over 72 months. Holdback varies by brand (2–3% for most). Add-on prices vary by dealer and term.

What you’re not paying for

Questions, answered
Is the broker fee per vehicle?
Yes. The flat fee covers one vehicle, start to finish. Fleet buyers pay the same flat fee per unit.
Who counts as a first responder?
Police, fire, EMS, 911 dispatch, and active-duty, reserve or retired military. Repeat Honk and Hollywood Motors clients also get the $249 rate.
When do I pay the fee?
Only when you move forward with a deal. The consultation is free and there’s no charge to explore options.
Do you take a commission from the dealer?
Our fee is the flat amount shown. We don’t charge you a percentage of the vehicle price, so we have no reason to push you into a more expensive car.
Is a broker worth it?
On a typical $50,000 new car we estimate a Honk client keeps about $1,100 to $4,500 after our fee, from dealers competing on price, add-ons left off the contract and a rate that isn’t marked up. You also skip the roughly 14 hours the average buyer spends buying a car.
